New 39% U.S. Tariff on Swiss Products: Why Our U.S. Made Spare Parts Are Not Affected

From 7th August, 2025, the United States introduced a new system of reciprocal tariffs. This means that goods made in Switzerland and imported into the U.S. are now subject to an extra 39% import duty.

This has created understandable concern among Swiss exporters and their U.S. customers.

But here’s the important news for our Partners and Customers at Horix Aerospace:

  • With the exception of some Leonardo parts made in Italy, most of our spare parts are made in the U.S.

  • They are not affected by the 39% duty, even though they are shipped from Switzerland.

Why U.S.-made parts are exempt

The key principle under U.S. customs law is Country of Origin.

If a product is Swiss-made, the new 39% tariff applies when it enters the U.S.

If a product is U.S.-made, the tariff does not apply, even if it is shipped from Switzerland.

This rule is written into U.S. law under 19 C.F.R. §134 and is confirmed by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

What this means for Horix Aerospace Customers

Our spare parts and components, with the exception of some Leonardo parts made in Italy, are manufactured in the United States.

We stock and distribute these items from our facility in Quartino, Switzerland, for logistical efficiency.

When these U.S.-origin parts are shipped to Customers in the United States, no 39% Swiss tariff applies.

In other words: you will not see a price increase caused by the new Swiss duty rule.

A note on documentation

To ensure smooth customs clearance, shipments of U.S.-origin goods must be accompanied by clear paperwork showing where they were manufactured. Horix Aerospace already provides:

  • ATA 106 Part or Material Certification Form completed with the manufacturer part number.

  • Manufacturer Certificates of Conformity or FAA 8130-3 (if available).

  • Commercial Invoice that state U.S. origin.

This protects our Customers against delays or unnecessary duty charges at the U.S. border.

Why the U.S. introduced the 39% tariff

In April 2025, the White House created a new system of reciprocal tariffs.

In July 2025, it was updated: Switzerland was assigned a 39% duty rate on Swiss-origin goods, effective August 7, 2025.

This measure applies broadly to many Swiss exports, for example Swiss watches, industrial machinery, chemical and pharmaceutical products, and even aerospace products, given that Switzerland's only aircraft manufacturer exports mainly to the US. However, it is strictly origin-based, which is why U.S.-made products are not affected.

Bottom line

  • Horix Aerospace supplies U.S. manufactured aircraft spare parts.

  • These parts are not subject to the new 39% tariff, even if shipped from Switzerland.

  • Customers in the U.S. will continue to receive parts at the same duty conditions as before.

We remain committed to keeping our Partners fully informed about regulatory changes and ensuring that supply chains remain reliable and cost-efficient.
